Tundra Tykes Childcare Center
Anchorage, AlaskaProject Background
Tundra Tykes is a project located in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. The property and building are owned by a local developer, leased by the GSA, and managed by a non-profit organization. With classrooms and nurseries for children ranging from 6 months to 6 years, the challenges for the project were vast, including a small, urban infill site, multiple levels of authorities having jurisdiction, and accessibility requirements.
Project Role
As a member of the project team, my responsibilities included code research, sustainable design investigation, collaboration with in-house project team members, interior designers, engineering consultants, the client, and contractors. I worked closely with the contractor to coordinate shop drawing submittals, site visits and requests for information.
Childcare is always a need in an urban area, and Anchorage is not the exception. Before construction was complete, the waiting list was long to register local children into the childcare program.
